Rip Curl Cup 2025: Pandang Padang Bali

Congratulations to Westen Hirst and Jasmine Studer!

Waves, hoots, and endless barrels—this year’s Rip Curl Cup at Padang Padang Beach felt like the universe opened up, with Huey throwing down some thunderous barrels from the heavens. From the energy on the beach to the talent sizzling through the heats, the day was a celebration for the Bali surf scene and reminder of the raw power that possess the waves of Indo and the Bukit region—with Westen Hirst and Jasmine Studer stealing the show to be crowned winners of the 2025 Rip Curl Cup.

A Pulse-Raising Barrel Fest

When Rip Curl dropped the “It’s ON” call, everyone—from Mason Ho to Tosh Tudor–loaded up their board racks, jumped on their scooters, and headed for the marshalling tent. The swell was heaving, with well-groomed 6-foot-plus sets pushing through all day long, pitching up and rifling along Padang Padang’s razor-sharp reef, offering barrel after barrel, with no time to hit the pause button.

Teen Stars On The Rise

In the men’s comp, 16-year-old Westen Hirst was dialling in with a double-barrel to kick off the final, scoring a 9.9. From there, the heat was on Ketut Agus, who clawed back with flawless technical tube riding, but Westen nailed a 7.33 when it counted, and locked in the win for 2025.

In the women’s comp, Jasmine Studer absolutely dominated–scoring a perfect 10, following it with an 8.17, and inspiring a raucous round of cheers, hoots and whistles on the beach. Willow Hardy stayed in close contention, landing a 9 and an 8.33, but couldn’t quite catch Jasmine's lead. Unfortunately, minutes after the buzzer, Ziggy Mackenzie nearly pulled off a perfect ride—but the final was already over as Jasmine floated into the channel, eyes wide open with joy and a smile from ear to ear in celebration.

Local Legends & Wild Moments

The Rip Curl Cup is Indonesia’s longest-running surfing comp—and it showed why. The line-up was stacked full of legends and rising talents alike. Highlights of the day included Ivan Florence pulling an almost-impossible exit from a heaving meaty barrel and Made “Bol” Adi Putra dropping a textbook tube ride to show us all how its done.

An Electric Day – Good Times Flowing!

The vibes on the beach were all time, with a scene full of hoots and whistles, string bikinis, sunburnt faces, selfie takers, Island Brewing flowing, and the glorious sight of barrel riding at it finest. It felt like the best day of the year at Pandang Padang! The vibe and feel for the day was like a “Bali surf family” get together, boats rocking in the channel, hoots echoing off the cliffs and rooftops, and the whole crew—locals and visitors—buzzing with pure stoke.

After winning the comp, Westen looked like he was about to explode from happiness. Later saying, “I’ve been surfing here since I was 10… now I’m in The Rip Curl Cup and I won. It’s just… crazy.” And Jasmine was genuinely speechless—“the most surreal moment” of her life.

Final Thought

The 2025 Rip Curl Cup Padang Padang wasn’t just a surf comp—it was a launchpad for Indonesia’s next wave of surfing royalty. With future stars like Westen and Jasmine lighting up the lineup and displaying their talent for all to witness—it was the kind of day that only comes around once a year.
